A 250-megawatt solar farm project has received the final stage of approval from the Central Highlands Council today, following the federal government giving the project the green light back in April.

the project has been authorised under planning permission DA 2025/14, paving the way for the start of works on the site, expected in the coming in the following months.

The project will combine large scale solar generation with livestock activities under the panels. This integrating both to make more use of the land, providing livestock feed, space & shade while generating power.

The site had previously been selected due to it’s proximity to existing energy infrastructure, avoiding the need for additional utility poles and stations to be developed.

According to Ispennet, the construction period is expected to generate around 300 jobs, providing 8 permanent roles during it’s operational lifespan.

the solar farm is anticipated to provide power for at least 30,000 homes, expected to reduce around 44,000 tons of Co2
